Last week, on a train with flaky wifi, Alan posted the session list for the conference and forgot to add any caching. Our little rails app became a greasy hole in the ground and the server was so crushed, he couldn’t even ssh back on to fix it.
Alan’s been soundly beaten and the caching problem was fixed…however…
During the panic, Brightbox offered to host the site for us on a much more solid rig, which may actually have survived the cacheless frenzy, but we’ll never know.
We figured it would be silly to turn down the generous offer of a couple of load-balanced 1Gig servers in case Alan decided to pull the same stunt next year.
